Scouting the 2015 Draft: Luken Baker

Luken Baker is a classic big, strong Texas(is he from Luckenbach?) HS power pitcher at 6'4", 240 lbs, but is also a hitting prospect who has won at least one showcase HR derby.  On the mound, he is a drop and drive pitcher with somewhat abrupt arm acceleration and deceleration.  His FB hits 95 MPH.  He has a nice tight slider to go with it and a change that he rarely uses.  At the plate, he is a huge presence with a surprisingly short, quick swing that generates tremendous power.  He has a very bad body for a position player.  I do not see him as being able to field anything but 1B in the pros.  My comp would be a RH hitting version of Adam Dunn.  To me, he looks like a pitcher and that is how I think he will be drafted, but scouts are split about evenly. I could see an AL team like the Angels liking him better as a hitter.  BA does not rank him in their early Top 50 2015 draft prospects.  Kiley McDaniel of Fangraphs has him at #40.
