DrB's 2016 Giants Top 50 Prospects: #41 Christian Jones

Christian Jones, LHP.  DOB:  1/27/1991.  6'2", 205 lbs.

A+:  6-2, 3.50, 72 IP, 9.38 K/9, 2.63 BB/9, GO/AO= 1.80, 1 Save.

Christian Jones was the Giants 18'th round selection in the 2013 draft after a redshirt junior season at Oregon.  The Danville, CA native who grew up an A's fan had lost his 2012 season to Tommy John surgery and pitched out of the bullpen for Oregon in 2013.  He pitched mostly out of the bullpen as a pro until the end of last season when he got a chance to start in his last 3 appearances of the Cal League regular season with an ERA of 4.50 in 12 IP, 5 BB, 10 K's.  Then he started two games in the Cal League playoffs allowing just 1 ER in 9.1 IP on 5 H with 13 K's against just 1 BB.

Jones features a nice 3 pitch mix which will play either as a SP or RP.  His combination of high K's, low BB's and strong GB tendency is a great base to work from.  His most likely ceiling is Jeremy Affeldt type reliever with ETA 2018 or 2019, but he's a bit of a sleeper who could break out big time if given the chance to start this season.
